Preliminary self-test to know your diabetes risk
25/07/2023
Diabetes is one of the chronic disease killers in Hong Kong, in which 1 in 10 Hong Kong people suffer from diabetes, so it must not be taken lightly. If you do not keep abreast of your physical condition, diabetes may have a serious impact on your body and even cause fatal complications. Therefore, it is very important to conduct regular diabetes self-tests for prevention.
Asian Diabetes Foundation (ADF) develops rapid diabetes self-test tool
Based on the diabetes risk data of a group of Chinese living in Hong Kong, Asian Diabetes Foundation (ADF) developed a diabetes self-test tool - Diabetes Risk Calculator (RUBY, Risk Understanding By Yourself) in 2010. Using questionnaire and scoring method, this tool allows the public to assess their diabetes risk easily and conveniently. If people at high-risk of diabetes can be identified early, corresponding actions can be taken for prevention or treatment much earlier.
The following are the URL of RUBY, which can perform a quick diabetes self-test and get the score. Individuals with total score higher than 16 points belong to the high-risk group of diabetes. It is recommended to consult family doctor for further examination.
Choose appropriate diabetes tests to understand your risk early
Although diabetes risk calculator can provide a simple and quick self-test of diabetes risk, it is just for preliminary risk prediction and the results are not the most accurate. While testing of Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), Glycated Hemoglobin (HbA1c), or Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) can only provide diagnostic results for diabetes, it is already too late for diabetes prevention when abnormal blood glucose values are discovered.
If you want to know whether you have the potential risk of diabetes early and accurately, GemVCare's DForesee® is suitable for you. DForesee® is the most comprehensive and accurate diabetes assessment on the market. It uses technology and databases authorized by local university to analyse genetic and modifiable risk factors, predicting your risk of developing prediabetes and diabetes earlier and more accurate than ordinary blood glucose testing.Click here to learn more about the DForesee® test.
